About the Publisher

Paul Oyola

Cybersecurity Architect | CISSP | Publisher of AI Security Explained

Paul Oyola is a cybersecurity and technology professional with more than 20 years of experience across enterprise IT, security architecture, and cloud environments.

His professional background includes security engineering and architecture roles at organizations such as VMware and MUFG, where his work has involved protecting enterprise systems, designing security controls, and addressing complex technology risks.

Today, his work includes industrial network architecture and operational technology (OT) security, with an emphasis on network segmentation, security boundaries, and the practical application of established security principles.

His background combines hands-on security architecture experience with formal education in cybersecurity, including a degree in Cybersecurity and Information Assurance and CISSP certification.

When AI Blurs the Boundaries of Security

Traditional cybersecurity relies on clearly defined boundaries: who can access information, which systems can communicate, what actions are authorized, and where security controls are enforced.

These boundaries have always required careful design and verification. But the growing use of AI, particularly AI agents that can interact with tools, information, and other systems, introduces new complexity.

An AI system may receive instructions from one source, access information from another, and initiate actions through a third. Responsibility, authority, and enforcement can become difficult to distinguish. A system's apparent behavior may not reflect the actual scope of its permissions or the effectiveness of its safeguards.

The security principles haven't disappeared. AI has made it harder to see where and how they apply.

Paul founded AI Security Explained to bring those lines of demarcation into better focus.

Drawing on his background in security architecture and operational technology, he approaches AI security by examining the boundaries that matter: where authority begins and ends, which controls enforce restrictions, who remains accountable, and what evidence demonstrates that safeguards work.

The objective is not to make AI security sound simpler than it is. It is to make the underlying security principles, mechanisms, and decisions easier to understand.

The Mission of AI Security Explained

AI Security Explained helps business leaders and technical professionals understand how established cybersecurity principles apply to emerging AI systems.

Through research-grounded explanations, practical examples, and visual learning, the publication seeks to clarify the distinctions that AI can obscure.

For executives, that means understanding risks, responsibilities, and the evidence needed to make informed decisions.

For technical professionals, it means understanding system behavior, trust boundaries, delegated authority, enforcement mechanisms, and how safeguards can be evaluated.

Our mission is to bring clarity to the security boundaries AI makes harder to see—so readers can better understand the risks, evaluate the safeguards, and make informed decisions.
